Unfortunately, all hard drives have a destiny to fail & generate data corruption with use, it's just a matter of when they fail and how prepared you are to accommodate the failure. Hence it is very important for data backups to be able to survive drive failure and to be monitored for drive health.
Our TR NAS is a network based storage box (Network Attached Storage), with two mirror RAIDed hard drives providing drive fault tolerance even in the advent of drive failure. When used in conjunction with our T.R. Back-up Monitoring Service (included with T.R. PRO & Server accounts), the highest reliability of is attained.
How it differs from a USB Drive
- TR NAS is a stand-alone device, so if your computer blows up with a USB Drive plugged in, the backup doesn’t smoke it with the PC
- TR NAS has “Mirrored drives” (data is written to 2 drives at once, instead of just one) – to prevent data loss in the case of drive failure
- USB drives aren’t mirrored, as a rule, mirrored, so inevitable drive failure (which occurs through use) results in backup loss/corruption
- TR NAS can be monitored, so needs a TECHS REMOTE MONITORING add-on. This way back-ups can be checked to see they are doing their thing, and any anomalies reported back.
- TR NAS reports on drive hardware issues including S.M.A.R.T. info and RAID Status. USB drives do not do this
- TR NAS can be attached to our TR STORAGE CLOUD (below)
- TR NAS is designed for “Automation”, as people generally dislike engaging with back-ups in any way shape or form. It’s set & forget from a user’s perspective, leaving the hard yards to us.
- No customer knowledge required to operate. We do all the setup configuration etc and management from an active TR account that has TR BACK-UP Monitoring attached.
- TR NAS can report back drive hardware status, a big thing as USB drives don’t
